Not All Weddings Are White

I’ve planned weddings for fifteen years. I’ve stood in churches, in courtyards draped in chuppah and mandap, beside Sofreh and inconverted fincas where two grooms exchanged vows as the Mallorcan sun dropped behind the Tramuntana mountains.
Not one of those weddings looked the same. Not one of them should have.
And yet, if you search “wedding planner Mallorca,” you’ll find page after page of the same image: a white dress, a white arch, white flowers against golden stone. Beautiful yes, undeniably but that`s not a full picture of the celebrations that are welcome here.
For the couples who want to honour where they come from, not just where they’re getting married. For the South Asian diaspora communities in the UK, Europe, UAE and the USA who want the splendour of Mallorca and the full richness of their cultural traditions, here anything is possible.
Why Indian Families Are Choosing Mallorca
Spain has become one of Europe’s most sought-after destinations for Indian destination weddings and Mallorca in particular offers something the mainland rarely can: privacy, grandeur and space.
Large fincas and estates with multiple buildings mean families can be together across multiple days of celebration. The climate mirrors the warmth of India far more than the UK ever could. Golden light that photographers call magic hour lasts for hours here in summer.
And crucially for the families who are coming from UK, USA or UAE Mallorca is very accessible.
I’ve spent half of every year in India since 2019 and I understand, from lived experience, what Indian rituals mean. Logistically, emotionally, spiritually and socially.
What Makes an Indian Wedding in Mallorca Different to Plan
Let’s be honest about the challenges, because couples who have tried to navigate this alone know them well.
Fire and ritual
A Hindu wedding requires a sacred fire and not every venue in Spain will allow this. Over many years I have built relationships with the estates and fincas that will - venues with the outdoor space, the stone courtyards, the understanding owners who know that sacred fire is not a risk, it’s a ritual.
Multi-day timelines
A South Asian wedding isn’t one day, often across three or four days. Venues need to accommodate this. Catering teams need to understand it and accommodation must be block-booked for extended families.
Guest numbers
Indian weddings are, gloriously, never small affairs. I work with venues across Mallorca that can host 200, 300, 400 guests and I know which ones have the car parking, the flow, the layout and the outdoor space to make a large celebration feel intimate not chaotic.
Food
I work with caterers who understand the complexity and the joy of South Asian cuisine, and who can blend it beautifully with the island’s local produce.
I approach South Asian weddings the way I approach every wedding I’ve ever planned, with the belief that your ceremony should be a true reflection of who you are and where you come from. That it should be led by people who understand you and execute your wishes with a respect and reverence for your culture and family`s traditions.
All the FAQs
Can you have a Hindu wedding ceremony in Mallorca, Spain?
Yes. A full Hindu wedding ceremony including the havan (sacred fire) and all associated rituals can be held in Mallorca. The key is choosing the right venue. Not every estate or finca will permit an open fire or accommodate multi-day ceremonies, but The Mallorca Project has 15 years of local experience and an established network of venues that will. The ceremony can be entirely authentic while taking place under Mediterranean skies.
Is Mallorca a good destination for an Indian destination wedding?
Mallorca is one of the best-kept secrets for Indian destination weddings in Europe. Large private fincas and estates can host 200–400 guests across multiple days, the warm climate mirrors India far more than the UK, the light is extraordinary for photography, and the island is well-connected by direct flights from UK, USA, UAE & major European cities. It is significantly less logistically complex than planning in India, while offering comparable grandeur.
What Indian wedding rituals can be accommodated in Mallorca?
The Mallorca Project has experience accommodating the full range of South Asian wedding rituals, including: Mehndi (henna) evenings, Sangeet nights, Baraat processions, Haldi ceremonies, the Havan and Pheras (Hindu) ceremonies. Each requires different venue logistics - space, permissions, catering which we manage on your behalf.
Can I bring a Hindu priest (pandit) to Mallorca for my wedding?
Yes. Many families choose to bring their own pandit from the UK or India, which is entirely possible. The Mallorca Project can help facilitate this, including advising on travel logistics, accommodation, and the schedule of rituals. Alternatively, we can help source a pandit if you do not have one.
Can Mallorca venues cater for Indian vegetarian or halal food?
Yes. The Mallorca Project works with specialist caterers who can provide fully vegetarian menus, and menus that blend South Asian cuisine with local Mallorcan produce. This is discussed in detail during the planning process to ensure the food is a genuine reflection of your family’s traditions.
How long do Indian weddings typically take to plan in Mallorca?
For a full multi-day Indian wedding with 150+ guests, a planning lead time of 18-24 months is recommended. This allows adequate time to secure the right venue, coordinate family travel and accommodation, source vendors (caterers, decorators, musicians, photographers), and manage the legal paperwork. Smaller celebrations can sometimes be arranged in 12 months. The Mallorca Project offers full planning packages tailored to Indian weddings.
Do I need a wedding planner for an Indian wedding in Mallorca?
For an Indian wedding in Mallorca particularly one with multiple days of events, large guest numbers, and specific ritual requirements an experienced local planner is strongly recommended. Navigating Spanish venue contracts, permit requirements for fire rituals, logistics for international families and coordination across caterers, decorators and officiants is complex.
What venues in Mallorca are suitable for Indian weddings?
The best venues for Indian weddings in Mallorca are large rural estates and fincas with substantial outdoor space, multiple buildings for accommodation and event flow, and flexible permissions for open fires and extended events. We share venue recommendations once we understand your guest numbers, budget and the specific rituals you wish to include.
Does The Mallorca Project have experience with Indian weddings specifically?
Yes. The founder of The Mallorca Project is British, has lived between Mallorca and India since 2019 and has planned Indian weddings alongside Jewish, Persian, Catholic and same-sex weddings over a 15-year career. This combination of cultural understanding, lived experience in India, and deep local knowledge of Mallorca is rare and makes a significant difference to how these weddings are planned and celebrated.
