Writing The Vows

A guide from a Mallorca Wedding Celebrant

Photography Ana Garcia

Vows have always been my most favourite part! My early days as a wedding planner at a West London venue, I would sit behind the wall and listen to the couples saying their self written vows to each other with a tear in my eye. Now, 15 years later, I get to help couples write their vows.

Those honest, simple, raw words. The promise of it, the pure love in the intention. It will give you goosebumps and tears of happiness every time.

But the road to get there can be a little tricky for most couples.

“We love the idea of personal vows… but we don’t know where to start, the moment might be too overwhelming.”

Writing vows doesn’t have to be scary and there are many ways to include vows in your ceremony.

Do You Have To Write Your Own Vows?

Only if you want to. During a celebrant ceremony in Mallorca, you can choose what feels right for you:

• Write your vows to say during your ceremony

• Repeat pre agreed vows after your celebrant

• Exchange private vows just the two of you at another time and repeat vows during the ceremony (to eliminate stage fright & for your privacy)

Your ceremony should feel natural and exciting, not stressful, not scary.

You Don’t Have To Say Vows In Front Of Everyone

Many couples worry about public speaking. Here’s a secret: your vows don’t need a microphone.

You can say them quietly to each other at the front while guests witness the moment without hearing every word. It keeps the moment intimate while still being part of the ceremony.

Another beautiful option is exchanging private vows before or after the ceremony, giving you a meaningful moment away from the crowd.
